The Civic Centre Junction consultation is now closed.
This project is part of the central government funded Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) Programme in Southampton. Civic Centre junction is a key network location which we are proposing remodeling, to provide improved access into the City Centre for people walking and cycling, enhanced bus priority and better traffic flows.
The Civic Centre Road junction with Havelock Road in Southampton City Centre is a large, signalised junction. The proposed improvements identified in the questionnaire below are designed to provide:
Improved connectivity for people walking and cycling from Southampton Central Station into the City Centre
Improved connectivity for people walking and cycling from Southampton Central Station to St Mary’s football stadium
Improved ease of use and safety for people walking and cycling across the whole junction
Enhanced bus priority and improved traffic flows with the installation of upgraded smart signal technology.

The consultation responses will be reviewed and analysed during this period and a summary of the results will be published on the Connecting Southampton website.
Construction
this is an upcoming stage for Civic Centre Junction
Construction will begin in Autumn 2023 and continue to Summer 2024.
Some people, for example wheelchair or mobility scooter users, identify with the term wheeling instead of walking. We consider walking and wheeling to also include the use of mobility aids and pushchairs.
